Use Before You Lose: Using Your Vision Benefits Before the End of the Year

Take Full Advantage of What You’re Paying For to Get the Most by Using Your Vision Benefits and/or FSA/HSA Benefits.

The end of the year is quickly approaching and we know that you probably have more on your mind than your eye care.

Making an appointment with your eye care practice and using your vision benefits before the first of January really should be on your holiday to-do list, and here are a few reasons why.

An Existing Benefit

You already have vision or health insurance and most likely, an FSA (flexible spending account) or HSA (health savings account). You’ve already paid into those benefits, so why not use them? Plus, it’s important to use your existing benefits to not only maximize them, but to help you take care of your vision care or other medical needs. You deserve to take advantage of the benefits you pay into!

It Doesn’t Always Carry Over

It’s important to remember that when it comes to an HSA or FSA, some funds carry over to the new year and some don’t. Both are an important benefit that can be the extra help you need when it comes to your own medical expenses.

If you have an FSA (flexible spending account) through your employer, you’ll want to make use of it before December 31st. This is because FSA savings don’t roll over to the new year. The amount accumulated in this type of account depends on the amount of money you decide to contribute towards it. This is money deducted from your paycheck prior to income taxes. Whatever you have left over at the end of the year is forfeited back to your employer. Not using it would be like giving part of your paycheck back to your employer after you’ve done all the work.

An HSA (health savings account) is a pre-tax personal savings account specifically for medical expenses. Luckily, this type of account does roll over and allows more room for savings than an FSA. While you don’t have to rush to spend your benefits before the end of the year with an HSA, it’s important to use them when you need them so that you can take care of your vision and other medical needs!

Preventative Care

Most importantly, however, using your benefits by the end of the year contributes toward preventative care. Vision or eye issues do not take a break for the holidays! By using your benefits for preventative care, you can not only keep your eyes healthy, but if there is a problem, it’s caught early and treated as necessary. This allows you to have the best vision possible!

What to Use Your Benefits On
